Date Recorded:
8 Nov 2003
Artist:
Hayley Westenra
Location/Source:
Festival of Remembrance: Royal Albert Hall, London (BBC TV)
More Details:

Hayley then aged 16 singing "Tonight We'll Light A Candle" at the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance, Saturday 8th November 2003, at the Royal Albert Hall in London in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen.

The specially written lyrics are set to a new arrangement (for this event) of the New Zealand traditional song "Pokarekare Ana" but we do not currently know the name of the lyricist.

This performance showcases a young Hayley at her very best, singing at the age of only 16, just a few months after becoming Internationally known.

The video was originally recorded by Gerrit Kroeze for HWI and was re-discovered in 2009 in the HWI vaults. It is from an original windows media file compressed at only 256 kbps and has needed considerable enhancement and editing to make it as presentable as possible. Editing and restoration by Dave Ludlow.

Lyrics (from the HWI archives ).

Tonight we'll light a candle
Light a candle to remember
To remember all our loved ones
And the days we left behind.

   Oh! Fare thee well
   Dear long lost friends
   May peace be with you
   'Till we meet again.

They would want us to be happy
To be happy we're together
We're together 'cause we love them
More than words could ever say.

   Oh! Fare thee well
   Dear long lost friends
   May peace be with you
   'Till we meet again.

See the candle is still burning
And the world will go on turning
There's a light above the horizon
And it's there for all to see.

   We remember you
   Dear long lost friends
   May peace be with you
   'Till we meet again.

May peace be with all of us
'Till our journey's end.
